What’s your favourite thing about your job?
No two days in my job are the same. I’ve been able to work on events like the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and have toured around Australia working as a Stage Manager for plays, major events, concerts and musicals. I love being a part of each event and feeling the thrill of having helped bring an experience to life.
What are the key roles and responsibilities in your role?
We’re the people who work behind-the-scenes to look after the stage. We relay a director’s wishes to technical crew and oversee the stage crew and ensure everyone is working together. We help put together an event – whether it’s a musical, concert or play.
How did you get into tourism and your current role?
I first started out as a stage manager when a friend asked me if I wanted to take on the role of stage manager for her plays. I dived in, not knowing what the job involved but found that I loved the whole experience. I later discovered that I could take a course in stage management and had a “that’s what I want to do with my life” moment.
What’s your advice for someone considering a career in tourism?
I’d recommend taking a course in stage management and just giving it a go!
